Today I’m typing with the little tree Karen gave me for Christmas twinkling beside me. Little things from friends up here in isolation (it’s not really, but if you ventured here for the first time, you’d think George & I had signed on for the witness protection program) are super special. This candle is in a Christmas tree shape -- white sparkles on the outside -- and it flickers softly when you turn it on. Karen even included a backup battery. I like it a lot.
Woke up at 4 a.m. and couldn’t go back to sleep for at least an hour. Then slept until 8:15. Restful, dreamy sleep with warm little doggies on either side of me. Sweet. Got up to the smell of coffee & a hairy Honey Bun licking my hand. Bless George for getting up before me and making the coffee. I love that.
Our smallest pooch, Honey Bun, is blonde and a cross between a Silky and a dust-mop. Heck, I don’t know what kind of dog she is. We got her from the humane society and she was a shivery mess. But now she thinks I live and breathe only for her. Her dream is that we cuddle on the couch every moment of the day, and I‘m not opposed to that. Dogs are so good -- they make you feel so completely necessary.
Yesterday afternoon George and I hiked down to work on the spring lines. The sub zero temperatures a couple weeks ago froze some parts of the lines so we have a limited water supply for the time being. The trip started as an idyllic walk through the brush & pines; him with tools, me with a song in my heart and , as always, watching for wildlife. After spending a couple of hours pulling pipes apart and ridding them of ice clogs, we were soaked & spent. It was snowing pretty hard by then and we decided it was best to hike back. We’ll work more on the spring lines, but will wait for kinder temperatures.
Which brings me to your Tuesday recipe: Rum-Pum-Pum-Pum. Use the tallest glass you have. Fill it full of crushed ice. Add one can cherry Coke and several jiggers of Captain Morgan’s rum. Splash in just a little Toriani’s hazelnut flavoring (the syrup they put in lattes ). Stir and enjoy!!! I think that Rene’ is the one who told me to try Captain Morgan’s and cherry Coke, and she was definitely on target. So when you have a hankering for an icy sweet cocktail, try it! (You probably expected Tuesday’s recipe to be something with beef or chicken… HA!).
