Photo assignment: Grande Ronde River

Just finished lunch. Hot turkey sandwich on homemade white bread with morel gravy. Yum! I write about food a lot, don't I? Well, I love food, especially comfort food. It is The Best in my opinion.

This morning George and I took our cameras to the east side of the Grande Ronde River across from where our friends live. We were on a photo assignment to capture photos of ice patterns, river flow, sun and shadows. Everybody sees it naturally from the west river bank, but to see it from the east bank takes a little effort.

We hiked a mile up a private road that is closed now to motorized vehicles as it's covered with snow, ice and rocks. We photographed ice, water, white tail deer, chuckers, geese and a loud red-tailed hawk. From all of that, the patterns and swirls in the river's ice were the most beautiful to me. You just can't believe the sounds the ice makes as it pushes and shoves its way down the river. Enchanting, and all so lovely.

Hiked outdoors three days in a row now. Have some beautiful photos to show for it. Hope you all are enjoying your new year so far -- we definitely are!
