I’m thinking a lot about my Mom today.
As you know, she had surgery in Spokane yesterday to remove a cyst that was growing inside her. The surgeon opened her up and found ovarian cancer. The surgeon took everything out she could, and felt fairly confident that she‘d got it all. And then, Mom being Mom, woke up this morning, swung her legs over the edge of the bed and said she was ready to go home (we all feel the same way about a hospital stay). The doctor says with aggressive chemotherapy Mom has an 80% chance of totally beating it, and that‘s where my head is. I’m going to Spokane tomorrow morning, traveling up with Mom’s Marji, to spend a couple of days. Thanks so much for keeping us in your prayers. I know that God takes care of me, and he knows how much I need my Mom.
On the lighter side, tonight George and I took part in the Troy School Bingo Night. They host it once a month and it’s a great way to meet members of our community. The Troy school consists of two large rooms -- one designated for desks & school stuff, the other, a multi-purpose room that is long tables for lunching, a piano, a beautiful long, green counter, and library bookshelves loaded with great books and VHS tapes to check out.
There were four kids and six adults who showed up to play Bingo and eat finger food (yeah!). We played from 5 to 7:00, almost all of us winning at least once. We had a lot of fun and guess what?! I met two very nice ladies who invited me to come and exercise with them a couple times a week. One of them has a bunch of exercise equipment at her home which is only a few miles up the road from us. So I guess it’s time to get up, get out and get physical. Whatever. It will just be fun being with women again, and making some new friends.
Speaking of friends, we saw Pig (the sweet mule deer) and a few of her buds enjoying the sunshine on the side of the mountain below the house this morning. She’s so funny -- she knows her name and would rather listen to us than run away.
Wish me well on my travels to Spokane tomorrow. I am taking a sleeping bag and pillow just in case I end up camping in mom’s room. We’ll see how it goes.
